What is Augmented Reality ? Augmented reality has come a long way from a science-fiction idea to a science-based reality. The costs of augmented reality were so large that designers could only imagine working on design projects that involved it today things have changed and augmented reality is even accessible on the mobile handset.
That means to design for augmented reality is now an option for all shapes and sizes of UX designers. This technology that converts our physical world by adding layers of digital information onto it. Augmented reality does not create the whole artificial environments to replace real with the virtual one.
How does Augmented Reality work?
Many of us think like augmented reality is technical side, i.e; how does augmented reality work. It has a certain range of data like (images, videos, animation videos) may be used and people will see the result in both natural and synthetic light.
Augmented reality can be displayed on various devices like screens, glasses, handheld devices, mobile phones, head-mounted displays. It involves technologies like simultaneous localization and mapping.

- Pokemon go: Pokemon go doesn’t need any introduction or really any explanation why it is on the top of the list.
- Ingress: Another release by Niantic Studio- the team behind Pokemon Go, released back in 2012 still famous.
- Temple Treasure Hunt: This is a Geo-location based augmented reality app which you can play indoor as well as outdoor.
- Genesis: This augmented reality app is based on card games. The characters on your card come to life.

- Wikitude: It is one of the most widely used augmented reality apps. It gives the information augmented over your real-time environment. It provides all the data that may help you while travelling like nearby ATMs, restaurants, subway etc.
- Yelp Monocle: Yelp is related to Wikitude, displaying message augmented over your real-time environment. Monocle is a secret feature within Yelp which help you in finding and following the direction to the most regarded business or restaurants along with reviews, contact information etc.
Educational:
- Quiver: Formerly known as ColAR, specially tailored for children, it brings your child’s 2-D colour book to live with animated images.
- Elements 4D: This is developed by DAQRI, part educational story and part game this brings chemistry to life. This permits you to interact with 36 naturally occurring factors and learn about them.
- Arlon Plants: using this app, students can explore interactive plants to learn about structure and parts. Using the Arlon trigger, students can even watch a plant grow and move in an AR experience.
